Nick Vogelson and James Valeri came to me with an idea for an anti-Vogue fashion and culture magazine. I worked with them to codify the ethos of the publication and oversee editorial direction and development for issues No. 1 and No. 2. Together, we established the unique Q&A format, advertising strategy, and contributor programming.
“Document establishes style for today through a lens of beauty and culture. The inaugural Document Autumn/Winter 2013 issue will feature 200+ pages of art, fashion, and cultural content from renowned and up-and-coming names in the visual arts, fashion, film and literature. The issue will feature original covers by Italian artist, Fancesco Vezzoli, and supermodel, Liya Kebede, photographed by Collier Schorr. Document’s features and fashion photographers include: Collier Schorr, Jeff Burton, Jack Pierson, David Armstrong, Paul Wetherell, Benjamin Alexander Huseby, Maripol, Catherine Servel, Sofia & Mauro, and Miguel Reveriego. The magazine will feature contributing fashion editors Sabina Schreder (Purple, i-D, AnOther), Samuel François (Numéro), Jodie Barnes (Fantastic Man), and styling by model Hanne Gaby Odiele. Additional contributors include Vince Aletti (photography critic for The New Yorker), Mariuccia Casadio (arts editor for Italian Vogue), interior designer Ricky Clifton, architect Charles Renfro, Jake Shears (lead singer for The Scissor Sisters), and writer Justin Bond. Top models appearing in the launch issue include Liya Kebede, Bette Franke, Eniko, Matthew Terry, Adrien Sahores, and Valerija Kelava.”

Something collectible but not consumeristic, an intimate moment in this hectic life to discover, and be inspired by, things our readers are attracted to but not necessarily informed about. We wanted to create something inspirational for different kinds of people with a variety of aesthetics and backgrounds with a similar attraction: beauty.
