Utilidata
* The Energy Magician
In the risk-averse energy sector, Utilidata’s team of utility experts, engineers, data scientists, policy experts, and technologists were promising a radical new solution, but navigating fundraising and business development proved challenging. There was no incentive for an Energy Executive to take a chance on innovation.
I worked with Utilidata’s leadership team to navigate a growth strategy that began with brand strategy and repositioning and evolved to include series B fundraising comms, welcoming an Advisory Board, mapping early lighthouse partners and pilots, clarifying a USP, product naming and design principles, thought leadership presentations, IIJA funding activation strategy, product UX/UI, and website redesign & IA, and a new brand identity.
Instead of minimizing the potential of Utilidata’s technology to sell into large energy companies, I positioned the brand as a true disruptor — ready to take a small lighthouse group of progressive utility companies to the next level. This was a brand that existed on “the edge” of energy - literally at the ends of the poles and wires, reframing “energy” for the people inside the homes and businesses that use it. Along the way, I named their hero product Karman and guided them through a brand identity evolution.
